Tesamorelin
Growth hormone signaling and visceral abdominal fat
Abdominal fat is not all the same. Visceral fat sits deeper in the abdomen, around internal organs, and has different metabolic effects from the subcutaneous fat just beneath the skin. Tesamorelin is most directly relevant to this deeper fat compartment in people with HIV-associated lipodystrophy.
Prescription therapies are signed off by licensed practitioners and dispensed by licensed compounding pharmacies.
What it is and how it works
Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth hormone-releasing hormone, or GHRH. It activates GHRH receptors in the pituitary gland, stimulating the body's release of growth hormone. Growth hormone then affects fat metabolism and increases production of insulin-like growth factor-1, or IGF-1.
This is an upstream signaling approach: tesamorelin stimulates an existing hormone pathway. Its effect depends on the pituitary's capacity to respond. Growth hormone promotes the mobilization of stored fat, and tesamorelin's most clearly defined body-composition effect is reduction of visceral adipose tissue in its specific clinical setting.
Benefits and practical applications
Reduction of excess visceral fat.
In adults with HIV-associated abdominal fat accumulation, tesamorelin can reduce deep abdominal fat. This is particularly relevant when a prominent abdomen reflects altered fat distribution rather than simply an increase in overall body weight.
A more specific body-composition goal.
Because tesamorelin's effect is centered on a fat compartment, weight alone may not capture the result. Changes in abdominal fat, waist measurements, and abdominal appearance can be more informative. It is not a general-purpose method for removing pinchable belly fat.
Liver fat reduction in a related clinical setting.
Tesamorelin has also reduced liver fat in people with HIV and fatty liver disease. This expands the biological picture from visible abdominal changes to fat deposited within an organ involved in metabolic regulation.
Changes in selected metabolic markers.
Improvements in triglycerides and some other metabolic measures have accompanied visceral fat reduction in treated populations. These are useful accompanying outcomes, without implying that tesamorelin has been shown to prevent cardiovascular events.
Engagement of the growth hormone and IGF-1 pathway.
This pathway participates in protein turnover, tissue maintenance, and metabolism. Those roles explain broader interest in tesamorelin, but the pathway's normal functions do not automatically establish improved sleep, athletic recovery, or energy as treatment outcomes.
Connecting the treatment to your goals
Tesamorelin's strongest practical connection is to excess visceral abdominal fat in the setting of HIV-associated lipodystrophy. Someone who wants to understand why abdominal fat distribution has changed may find this distinction more useful than a broad promise of a leaner physique.
For general body-composition concerns, the important question is which tissue or metabolic problem is actually being targeted. Separating visceral fat from subcutaneous fat makes the discussion more precise and helps define what meaningful progress would look like.
Clinically supervised where it counts. Made by licensed pharmacies.
The biggest risk with peptides is not the peptide — it is not knowing what is in the vial. Everything we direct you to is dispensed by licensed compounding pharmacies, and the therapies that require it carry licensed practitioner sign-off — so the source, the strength and the oversight are all accounted for.
Licensed practitioners where sign-off is required
Therapies that call for a prescription are reviewed and authorized by a licensed medical provider — never sold direct-to-consumer without the clinical sign-off they require.
